A sense of calm washes over me as I enter the coastal, light, and lofty ‘Rosa Italian’ restaurant for the first time. Striped soft cushions with ruffles are waiting for me to sit down. Italian accents, thatched chair backs, and cane chandeliers add to the pleasant and clean, contemporary aesthetic of the room. With a well curated menu that is easy to read, I choose quickly, and the service is genuine and prompt throughout the evening.
The warm olives with marinated flaked garlic ($14) almost roll off the plate and into my mouth, slices of peppery and spicy salami ($16), and the fried parmesan, rosemary, and olive oil bread ($16) that is puffed into a pillowy cloud, is the perfect terzetto to start our meal.
Tonight, it’s Heads of Noosa Japanese larger for him, while I sip on Dal Zotto prosecco ($13). It’s delicate and delicious, and the bubbles dance in my mouth, despite the ordinary glassware. On the other hand, the plates speak to the dolce vita theme of Rosa Italian.
I order the crab spaghetti ($35), which is subtle and sweet in flavour, and the pasta is cooked to al dente. Simply put, it’s delicious! Halfway through the main, I switch plates with my love. The fish of the day (market price) is wood-smoked sea barramundi. It has been placed on a bed of rocket, herbs, blistered Juliet tomatoes, chickpeas, and wedges of fresh lemon, all fundamental to a Mediterranean diet.
There is no overbearing music, just the chatter and natter of people connecting over good food. I am delighted this restaurant is so close to home and in the heart of Coolum. If you were to eat dinner early, or during the summertime, the windows of Rosa Italian would let inside, Coolum’s cool blue hues, as the ocean meets the sky. It would certainly be beautiful I can’t wait to visit again.
